If your third grader needs help with math, there are many useful tools that can downloaded directly from the computer. Math is a subject that is best taught with visual aids, making the lessons more tangible for students. Third grade can be particularly challenging when it comes to math, as this is the year that students are learning about fractions, measuring and weighing objects, graphing and counting money. Most importantly, third graders should be comfortable with the basics of math such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. If your child is not comfortable with these basic components, it is almost inevitable that he or she will struggle with future math lessons.

Most volumes begin with an explanation of basic arithmetic operations namely: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Reference tables are supplied to provide clues for quick mental arithmetic and mastery of math facts. When ready to be tested, the student can select a drill, which has 10 questions and are selected from a database of number pairs for calculation. The Basic Level volumes use simple single digit numbers and the interactive math software at the Advanced Level uses mostly double digit numbers for math practice problems. Each drill is then scored and timed with the results saved. With the test records, students can follow their own progress and adults who may be supervising can monitor progress and assess if there are any learning issues that require intervention.

Cursive LettersBy Berneen Joly. Toddlers need to have playmates around. Even though they may not play with another person at this age, they are always paying attention to what is going on around them and what their peers are doing. They are learning how to be independent. They are learning that they have power to do things or not do things. Allow them to experience this and the consequences of their actions. **Note: this helps to explain why SHARING is often difficult. If they are establishing their own sense of self it is hard for them to share with another. This is a gradual process and improves closer to three years of age or older. These are all tips that help me with the toddler age. Remembering that they may not be able to play with but play next to, that they may not be able to share at this time but can take guidance on social interaction are concepts that will make your toddler preschool planning successful.

Cursive LettersBy Bernelle Roux. Primary grade students learn to count objects in their world, moving on to basic number pattern ideas and labels such as multiples of 5 and 3, and the concepts of odd and even. But these are whole number ideas, and partial numbers (fractions and decimals) tend to be introduced on paper as an abstract idea. In other words, teachers should be repeatedly showing students what a third of something is, or how to cut things up into equal pieces, etc. I am not saying that this is avoided in elementary school, just that students are not given enough exposure to those ideas. Students should not be doing worksheets where they practice adding fractions with unlike denominators until they can draw pictures of these fractions, or show how to cut them up into equivalent pieces. The concrete learning idea of manipulating objects to show a mathematical idea needs to be embedded into the minds of young learners before they can practice similar math ideas on pencil and paper. This curriculum piece tends to be skipped or rushed in most elementary classrooms.

Cursive LettersBy Celeste Poirier. Children need to be given lots of opportunity to write. The first word most kids will want to write is their own name. Parents can help by providing a good handwriting model for children to trace over at first, then later to copy. One way is to write the child has name using a light color then the child can trace over it with a darker color. Dotted letters are very effective for handwriting practice too. You can buy handwriting practice books but they will not be personalized for your child so you may want to consider getting a dotted font for your computer. Make sure you get the same style as your child is using at school to avoid making handwriting more complicated for them! It is easy to install a font on your computer and then you will be able to create name cards or type out a little story your child tells you. Once printed out the child can trace over the dotted letters.

Cursive LettersBy Chantay Blanchet. In all stages above, it is imperative to do oral and mental math. Without this skill, your child will be forever stuck with a pencil and paper. And the more work done on paper with a pencil, the more there is a chance for an error. And, your child will be stuck following steps instead of "just doing math." Doing oral and mental math makes a person very comfortable with math. Many adults have math phobia, due in no small part to not being able to do mental math. How to do it? While driving, cooking, shopping, sightseeing, almost any situation, you can drill your child on math. If a box costs $2, how much does 2 cost? How many horses do you see? Count the blue cars. Are their more boys than girls? Anything! Be creative. You can even get them to recite the times tables. This will also set the stage for an important skill they must master. Word problems! How many times have you heard people say they cannot do word problems? The oral problems you make up are just another form of word problems. If your child is used to doing math, without a problem written on paper, your child will not fear word problems. If you adamantly do the above, there is one last step. Sometimes it is out of your control, but do your best! Put your child in a class where there is an effective algebra teacher, and all math classes beyond sixth grade. You may find this hard, but the only one fighting for your child is you!

Cursive LettersBy Damia Pasquier. As you already know, the study of phonics follows the alphabetic principle and the idea that each letter represents the different sounds of speech. Phonics worksheets can help children learn phonics and in turn the English language. Children first learn the sound a letter makes, for example a, like hat and bat. They then learn that that letter is called A. After learning the sound of the first letter they will combine two letters, for example they will learn b as in bat and ball and then they will learn bl to say blue and so on.
